Dr Ph Martin's Bombay Inks are a lighfast pigmented waterproof India Ink which holds a line without spreading. This ink gives strong opaque colour making it ideal for calligraphy, drawing and pen & wash.
Iron gall ink is a purple-black ink made from iron salts and tannic acids from vegetable sources. It was the standard writing and drawing ink in Europe, from about the 5th century to the 19th century, and remained in use well into the 20th century.

Layout paper is a good option for practising on. It is thinner than most other papers so you can place a guide sheet underneath to save time ruling-up. It is also ideal for creating cut and paste layouts.
